DEEPA BHATIA

Deepa Bhatia graduated Bachelor of Commerce
from Mumbai University in 1993 and subsequently took a Post
Graduate Diploma in Social Communication Media at Sophia Polytechnic,
Mumbai University.

She has directed and edited documentary
films including 'Beating A Path…' a documentary on women's participation
in governance, shot in the Latur-Osmanabad districts of Maharashtra.
She recently edited a docu-feature, directed by Mita Vasisht,
documenting a theatre workshop taken by Mita Vasisht with rescued
sex workers.

She has worked with Govind Nihalani as Film
Editor on three feature films 'Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa' (1997)
'Thakshak (1998-99) 'Deham' (2001) and is contracted to edit
'DEV', a film featuring Amitabh Bachchan, Om Puri, Fardeen Khan
and Kareena Kapoor. She has also worked with Govind Nihalani
as Assistant Director on The Mating Game Show, a 13-part television
series, that attempts to question the arranged marriage system
in India and Sanshodan ('Amendment'), a feature film promoting
women's participation in village panchayats. co-produced by
UNICEF-NFDC.

For the Media South Asia Project she researched
the cultural impact of the broadcast media on the youth culture
in India, with special reference to Maharashtra and Mumbai.
