LATA RAMASESHAN

Lata Ramaseshan graduated MA at Madras University
in 1984 and subsequently took a Post Graduate Diploma in Management
and Computers (1993), at the Anna Institute of Management, Chennai
and Master of Business Administration(1998), at the Indira Gandhi
National Open University, New Delhi.

She is currently employed as Head, Information
Resource Centre in RK Swamy/BBDO Advertising Ltd, Chennai, managing
a marketing and advertising database and with responsibilities
which include collection, storage, retrieval, dissemination
and networking, media, advertising, economic and social developments.

She has undertaken a number of research
projects, including a project on the portrayal of women in Tamil
serials in satellite channels and Doordarshan on behalf of the
Media Advocacy Group (now Centre for Advocacy and Research),
New Delhi .She is a documentation consultant to Rural Women's
Social Education Centre Rural Women's Social Education Centre
(RUWSEC) an organization based in Chengalpettu district of Tamil
Nadu. She is involved in their publishing activities related
to the dissemination of information on health, gender training
and life skills education. She conducted a research project
on employment potential of school dropouts in Chennai for the
Joint Action Council for Women, Chennai. She was also involved
in an education project for drop out girl children in 10 villages
in the Utteriramerur Block, Kanchipuram, run by Social Education
and Development Trust, (SED), Chengalpattu

She has contributed articles to the "The
Hindu " and " Business Line" and has contributed for the special
section targeted at children in "The Hindu, The Young World",.
She coordinated with Ms Nalini Singh, a television professional,
based in New Delhi for her serial "Hello Zindagi" a series on
Doordarshan that looked at the lifestyles and attitudes of middle
class Indians (1995).

For the Media South Asia Project she wrote
a profile of television in south India (1999) and conducted
interviews with leading media observers and practitioners in
Tamilnadu.
